Dora was married three times. The first was to G. W. Franklin and their daughter was Ethel, so she was actually a Franklin not an Ice. Ice was the second husband of Dora and her third was Baker. Ethel was my grandmother and she was also married several times. Her first husband was Levi Buttrum, my grandfather. Second and third husband was Moody Carson. Have on file the obit for mother Julia Edna Kerley Murrie. Surviving children were: Deral Murrie of Battle Creek Mich., Cloe Soper of Vienna, Flo Moeller of Marion, Emma Lou Carter of Vienna, Velma Barthelme of Vienna, Charles Murrie at home, Lowell Murrie of Centralia, and Lena Reed of Ypsilanti, Mich. Her husband survived her as did two stepsons: Bill Murrie and Dan Murrie.

He had two adopted sons with his first wife. These were Alvin Lee Murrie born June 22, 1937 and Bentley Dean Murrie born January 25, 1939. I found that the boys were adopted from communication with Deral II.

Deral Lee Murrie, Sr. (b. 1914) - Moved to Battle Creek in 1935. Served in the Navy during WWII. Employed by former Central Electric Motor and Construction Co from 1945-1960. He changed the name to Murrie Electric Motor Service when he bought it in 1960. He owned and operated it from 1960 until retiring in 1979.

He called himself "Sea Daddy" . He was the boss of the gunners. Survived the sinking of 3 ships. He was a good swimmer. He told Julia Edna his aunt that he thought he could swim the ocean. (Information obtained from recollections of Lena Mae Reed)

Patsy Yvonne Murphy - Foster parents: Louis and Bertha Shelton . Patsy's mother died and Earl couldn't take care of her. Bertha couldn't have kids. (Rumor: Bertha had had several abortions earlier.) (Information obtained from recollections of Lena Mae Reed)

She was killed in her 1964 Volkswagon. The accident was on WEd., Oct 8 at 7:10 am when her car was struck from behind on Rt. 146, a mile east of Vienna. Following the accident, she was taken to Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis and was transferred to St. Louis, Missouri that night.
Jim Throgmorton of Vienna, driver of the 1969 Buick that struck the VW, just after both had gone over the hill as the cars were proceeding eastward, was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions according to the State Police report.
At the time of the accident, it was reported that the rising sun in the east had a blending effect on auto drivers as they topped that particular hill. (Information: Taken from News Article)

Rumor has it that Throgmorton was on some medicine he was taking for leg which had been injured in a train wreck years earlier.
Rumor also has it that shortly before she got in her car and left that she had had an argument with a daughter. The daughter said that she wished her mom would die in that car. (Information obtained from recollections of Lena Mae Reed)

Winnie Shelton - Winnie dearly loved Julia Edna. Cora brought them home to her parents, but Julia Edna was the one that raised them. (Information obtained from recollections of Lena Mae Reed)

Orlan Kerley - He was a member of Rock Springs Primitive Baptist Church near Simpson IL He was a former coal miner, life long farmer, and 8 years employed by the Illinois Dept. of Transportation. (Information obtained from obituary.)

He got the family place. His father got the land from the government. He was one of the few people to have the deed from the government. Orlan and Julia Edna were very close. They helped each other a lot. (Information obtained from recollections of Lena Mae Reed)
